Business and Financial Assistance
The National Farmers’ Federation has established a central portal (Farmhub) which holds information and links to COVID-19 information and business packages from across Government and other organisations. Keeping track of all the changes remains difficult across jurisdictions to ensure you get the latest information the FRDC will link to the Farmhub site for general updates.
Federal Government Response
Businesses across Australia are being impacted by COVID-19. The Australian Government has announced an economic response to Coronavirus totalling $17.6 billion. This includes cash flow assistance for small and medium sized businesses, providing up to $25,000 for eligible businesses that employ staff. The government also announced a $1 billion support package to those industries and regions most significantly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. The Australian Government continues to work with industry to understand the impacts of COVID-19 and provide appropriate support.
The federal government announced a second economic rescue package worth A$66 billion that increases support for small businesses. Which include measures such as cash payments for small to medium businesses. This is the largest part of the package. All employing small businesses will receive at least $20,000, and larger small businesses will receive up to $100,000. See https://treasury.gov.au/coronavirus/businesses.
On 30 March 2020 the federal government announced the $130 billion JobKeeper payment. Under the JobKeeper Payment, businesses impacted by the coronavirus will be able to access a subsidy from the Government to continue paying their employees.
International freight support measures
The Federal Government is allocating $110 million to support air freight of high value agricultural products. Under this initiative, the Government will coordinate flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth for deliveries to China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UAE.
